CV:Brian HUDSON , Ph.D, is Professor of Educational Work for ICT and Learning (2005-) in the Faculty of Teacher Education; Head of Research and Research Education in the Department of Interactive Media and Learning ( IML) and a member of the Umea Mathematics Education Research Centre ( UMERC) at Umea University in Sweden.
Brian Hudson has been co-ordinator of the MATHED Intensive Doctoral Programme: Researching the teaching and learning of mathematics (2002-05) and joint co-ordinator of the (LEARN) Intensive Programme: E-Learning in Higher Education (2002-06) for doctoral students of the European Doctorate in Teaching and Teacher Education (EUDORA) project.
At this time he is the main convenor of Network 27 of the European Educational Research Association Didactics - Learning and Teaching and co-convenor of Network 6 Open Learning: Media, Environments and Cultures ( OPENnet). He is a member of the Board of the thematic network Educational Repositories Network ( EdReNe); leader of the Internal Evaluation work package of the European Commission e-Learning project eLearning network for the development of a Teaching and Learning service Centre ( eLeneTLC) and leader of Work Package 2: The New Technologies of E-Learning of the EC Transversal Project: Implementing e-Learning 2.0 in everyday learning processes in higher and vocational education (eJUMP 2.0), co-ordinated by the Estonian e-University. He is also working with colleagues at Umea University on the EC FP7 research project European Educational Research Quality Indicators (EERQI) co-ordinated by the European Educational Research Association ( EERA). At a national level he is leader of the project Process Based Assessment through Blended Learning ( P@RABLE) funded by the Swedish Agency for Networks and Co-operation in Higher Education (2007-08).
He was a teacher of secondary school mathematics for fifteen years, prior to starting to work in teacher education in 1988. He completed a PhD in mathematics education in 1995 on the topic of Group Work with Multimedia in the Secondary Mathematics Classroom and in 2001 was appointed Professor of Education at Sheffield Hallam University. In 2004 he was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship by the Higher Education Funding Council of England (HEFCE). He is currently a Visiting Professor of Education in the Faculty of Development and Society at Sheffield Hallam University.
He has long-standing research interests in mathematics education, teacher education and the use of information and communications technology in teaching and learning. At the present time he is developing his research interests around the conception of Didaktik design for technology supported learning and also of teaching as a design profession. He is especially interested in the associated creative potential of such an approach for teaching and teacher education at all levels of the education system.
