OECD: Education and the Economy in South Eastern Europe

The Education and the Economy Activity closely follows objectives of the programme of work of DEELSA: evaluating strategies for lifelong learning for all; early childhood education and care (ECEC); the digital divide; facilitating transition to work; mobilising resources effectively; and improving the sharing of roles and responsibilities among government and partners. Setting up a network on intra and international experts to enhance capacity for formulating education policy, advice that will have impact on education legislation, and ameliorate the quality of education and promote democratic development in the SEE region. The OECD report will play a major role in influencing the work of Member countries and other donors. For the Stability Pact, a report with regional, statistic and country
sections (including Serbia) with recommendations that will be presented at a major conference in the first half of 2001. The report will subsequently be published. Several national dissemination workshops in which recommendations will be discussed amongst key players of the local education administration and national and international experts will take place; regional network seminars will be organised to encourage cross-border co-operation.  The Bulgarian review will be discussed by the Education Committee and published.

This activity also includes the integration of several of the SEE countries into the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).
