The Austrian Science and Research Liaison Offices in Sofia/Bulgaria and
 Ljubljana/Slovenia (ASOs) are organising in the next months
 international conferences and workshops to the main topic "Science and
 Technology Policy". Target countries are especially the countries in
 Southeast Europe. The conferences and workshops support the new 'Science
 Initiative' of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, Science and
 Culture for Southeast Europe aiming to bring Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia
 and Montenegro, FYR Macedonia, Albania, Croatia and the EU candidate
 countries Bulgaria and Romania closer to the European Research Area.

 Most of these events will take place till the end of the year 2004, but
 some will be continuous projects that will last till the first half of
 the year 2006 when Austria will preside the European Council.

 The conferences related to "Women and Science", "Benchmarking", "Risk
 Technologies in CEEC's" and a round table event on "Ethnic Minorities
 and Science" will take place in Bulgaria. A conference related to
 "Ethnic Minorities in Science and Higher Education" will be organised in
 Dubrovnik. A conference on the implication of the Bologna-process on
 higher education system in Southeast Europe will take place in Belgrad
 and the activities related to improved participation of Western Balkans
 countries in EU-RTD-Framework programmes are planned to be organised in
 Slovenia, Austria and Brussels (2004, 2005 and 2006).

 15-16 October, Dubrovnik, "Ethnic Minorities in Science and Higher
 Education. A Human Resource Development Challenge to Present and Future
 EU Member States"



 21-22 October, Sofia, "Women - Science - SEE: Promotion of Women in
 Science in Southeast Europe in the context of the European Integration".
