Postgraduate Diploma in Diplomacy 2005

The Postgraduate Diploma in Diplomacy (PGD) is designed for
diplomats, civil servants and others involved in international
relations who would like to improve their knowledge and skills
in the field of diplomacy and information and communications
technologies (ICT). The programme focuses on a broad spectrum of
issues, including the work of diplomats in today’s world, new
topics on diplomatic agendas and the use of information and
communications technology (ICT) tools for diplomatic activities.

This year the programme will coincide with preparations for the
Tunis phase of the World Summit on the Information Society
(WSIS - November 2005). Participants will acquire the necessary
knowledge and skills to take part in events such as the WSIS.
Through negotiation simulation exercises participants will learn
about the influence of ICT on diplomacy and international
relations, and keep up-to-date with the latest developments in
the field.

The programme consists of an introductory workshop in Malta and
ten months of online learning, taking advantage of the benefits
offered both by traditional, face-to-face learning and online
learning. The course is accredited by the University of Malta.

Practical Information

Suitable for: 
- Diplomats and civil servants who want to learn more about new
topics relevant for diplomacy, including the use and influence
of information and communication technologies.
- Employees of international organisations, non-governmental
organisations, media and the business sector who interact
regularly with diplomats and wish to learn more about diplomacy.
- Specialists in IT and telecommunications who want to learn
diplomatic skills in order to participate more effectively in
international multilateral and bilateral meetings such as
telecommunication summits and conferences.
- Post-graduate students of diplomacy or international relations
who want to explore new topics in diplomacy not usually covered
at diplomatic training academies.

Prerequisites:
- An undergraduate university degree; OR
- Three years work experience and appropriate professional
qualifications in diplomacy or international relations. 
- A good command of English, the language of tuition.
- Unrestricted access to the Internet in order to participate in
the online learning phase (please contact us for more details if
