Management in the Non-Profit Sector: The Role of Civil Soclety OrganizatIons in Achieving Participatory Democracy and Reconciliation, Nicosia, 25-26.2.2005 13 December, 2004 First Circular The Management Centre is eager to announce its Third International Symposium. Management in the Non-Profit Sector: The Role of Civil Soclety OrganizatIons in Achieving Participatory Democracy and Reconciliation. It will take place on 25-26 February 2005, in Nicosia, Cyprus. Aim of the Symposium The symposium will be a two-day event on the experiences of civil society in participatory democracy and reconciliation around the world and in Cyprus. A book will be published and distributed with all accepted papers. Books from the previous two international symposiums can be ordered through the website of the Management Centre, http://www.mancentre.org. In the first book there were presentations of seventeen authors from ten different countries and in the second book there were twenty four presentations from seventeen different countries. This year the purpose of the Third International Symposium will be to bring academicians, practitioners and experts together to learn from each other's experiences and spark new ideas, thoughts and discussions about the role of civil society in peace processes. The presenters and participants are expected to focus on the role of civil society organizations in the democratic process in their countries and the roles they have played in promoting peace and reconciliation. Objectives of the Symposium -To bring international and local academicians and practitioners working in this field together to share their experiences; -To study exemplary cases in other parts of the world, especially at this stage of the Cyprus Problem; -To increase cooperation among similar organisations and people working in the field both at home and abroad. Language The symposium will be conducted in English. Simultaneous translation in Greek and Turkish may be available for the local people of Cyprus. Abstracts The deadline for abstracts is 31 January 2005. The abstracts should be no more than 100 words. The abstract format is available online at www.mancentre.org. Each participant is expected to submit a CV together with the abstract. Any candidate who does not receive confirmation of their abstract submission within a week should contact Ms. Havva Ulgen at HUIgen@mancentre.org. Evaluation of Abstracts The abstracts will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee in February. The accepted papers will be announced on 4 February. Authors whose abstracts are accepted will be eligible to make presentations in February. 31 January 2005 Submission of abstracts and CV s 4 February 2005 Announcements of Accepted Abstracts 15 February 2005 Registration deadline 25-26 February 2005 Symposium Presentations Authors with accepted abstracts will be eligible to make their presentations at the Symposium. The presentations can be conducted by authors and/or co-authors. 20 minutes will be allocated for each presentation. Each presentation will be followed by a lO-minute discussion. The information on travel, accommodation, symposium details, and social life in Cyprus can also be found at the same web address. Symposium fee and other costs: Participation to the symposium is free of charge. Lunch will be provided by the Management Centre during the symposium. Participants will only be responsible for costs related to accommodation and airfare.
