Taken from: http://www.iccees2005.de The VII World Congress of the International Council for Central and East European Studies will take place in Berlin, Germany, from July 25th ? 30th, 2005. The theme of the Congress is "Europe ? Our Common Home?" We herewith invite you to come to this conference, to participate in the panels and roundtables and to meet colleagues from all over the world in this unique event. The Congress will be organised at the Humboldt Universität, in the very centre of the city. The Opening and Closing ceremonies will be held at the Kongresshalle, in the wonderful park of Tiergarten. The Kongresshalle can be easily reached by public transport. The local organiser is the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Osteuropakunde (German Association for Eastern European Studies). Berlin was the only city in the world which was divided from 1945 till 1989 in two parts which represented the two political system prevailing in Europe at that time. As known, from 1961 till 1989 a monstrous wall divided Berlin into two separate units. After reunification and after becoming again the capital of Germany, Berlin is expanding and growing, overcoming the differences of the past and developing into one of the most important metropolises in Europe. Berlin has always been narrowly connected with the Central and East European countries, and today it is politically, economically and culturally the main link between the European Union and Central and East Europe. The participants of the conference will have opportunity to become aware of this process in a fascinating city. Herzlich Willkommen!
